The rest were all done at my studio with Glenn Barratt producing. I was greatly influenced by his spirit and his music. He did a lot of touring and it nailed him. He died from complications from pneumonia. As always, I used Philly musicians. I finished it up February And, it will be fun singing with Nathan. He is a great songwriter. Burlap and Bean is one of my favorite places to play. The whole energy of the room is amazing. The show at Burlap and Bean will start at 8 p.

The other concert at Burlap and Bean this weekend is a show on October 15 that sounds like an order at a fast food joint — Billy Penn Burger with Billy Freeze. There will be another acoustic show on October 14 featuring a musician not known for performing acoustic concerts.

This type of music has always been a part of me, but I never showcased it on any kind of bigger level — like a full acoustic record.

I recorded the album there — on-and-off over a six-month period. Of the 13 songs on the album, nine are originals. I always loved folk music. Most of the time, the lyrics come last — but not always.

When I was making the album, I actually sang and played at the same time. I played live in the studio. I just tried to keep it as organic and natural as possible. I threw some stuff out. Other songs had good potential but not good takes. I have songs that I like that I need to re-record.

I plan to do an acoustic album volume two next year. The show in Sellersville will start at 8 p. Duval — were in other bands in L. So, we started writing together. Nick joined the band about two years later.

He was our first bass player when we actually started playing shows in Junior and I knew each other from Edmonton in the late 90s. And, Alan and Junior had played together in a band in Edmonton. Boing on the road playing shows was more important than making a new record. Touring was the biggest thing. Matt came into our rehearsal sessions to get a feel for what we were doing.

A lot of the production on the new album was done in the studio while we were recording. It gave it a more spontaneous feel. The rest of the younger cast members generally do a good job registering their advancing maturity in the face of Tracy's crusade, even when the staging of the musical numbers requires them to render their coming-of-age in broad, theatrical terms.

Efron, previously of the Disney sensation High School Musical, plays a thinking-woman's heartthrob, showing that his actor's touch is just as light between the lines of the script as when he's on the dance floor. Bynes, on the other hand, embraces her character's necessary naivete, making Penny's eventual romance with Seaweed seem that much sweeter. And Snow plays a pitch-perfect ice queen, adding delicate but effective indications that she's more a product of her mother's design than pure, unrelenting movie villainy.

Then, of course, there's Travolta, who evidently lobbied for the chance to inhabit the late Divine's role of Edna Turnblad. Adopting a Baltimore accent that few if any of the other characters share, Travolta really throws himself into the role -- not, unfortunately, enough to forget it's him beneath all of those prosthetics, but enough to believe he's Tracy's mom within this vivid, old-fashioned universe.

That said, especially when sparring romantically with his on-screen husband Christopher Walken -- himself an unlikely romantic lead -- Travolta's performance proves more fascinating as a showcase for "actorly commitment" than as a tender depiction of married love.

Edna's "ugliness" ultimately has less to do with the character's weight than the fact that Travolta just doesn't make a comely woman.

While a little bit long does every character really need to have a song, much less a subplot wrap-up? In fact, what proves most surprising is how many different ways the movie can be interpreted -- as a dazzling, straightforward musical, a clever coming-of-age story, or a tender parable about overcoming intolerance.

But then again, that's also the way you can tell the difference between a good summer movie and a bad one:
